Caught

I have no business knowing about record players

They were out of vogue before I was playing Truth or Dare

But you know that spot, where the record's worn a groove

And the needle gets caught, like it's inking a tattoo?

Well, so it is with your voice

You're every answer, every clue and I haven't got a choice

And the very hope of you drifts over my bed at night like a just-out-of-reach kite...

Chorus:

And then I'm caught, you're tangled in my hair

And in my every thought and it isn't fair

'Cause you've no business being there

I have no business knowing about slide projectors

But I was blessed with an old fashioned art professor

Though I can't recall much of what he taught

I remember all the slides where it got caught

And so it is with your face

Down streets and avenues I see you everyplace

And the very hope of you drifts over my bed at night like a just-out-of-reach kite...

Chorus

I have no business knowing the Latin beat

Wasn't born in Rio or with roses in my teeth

But the rhythm gets caught and dances 'round my brain

Like the endless drops of Seattle rain

And so it is with you, dear

There is nothing I can do; you are near me even when you aren't near

And the very hope of you drifts over my bed at night like a just-out-of-reach kite...

Chorus

Hi.
So, I found your music on facebook, and i adore it. It's... so... feminine and lovely.
And, in the same vien, I made my boyfriend a playlist and put Caught on it. I was talking to him about the CD the other day and he said "I hope you don't feel that way about me, like you just can't get rid of me and it's really annoying."
I didn't think that's what the song was about though.
So, my question.
Did you write it with a purpose or meaning in mind?

Thank you for the comment! About the song, I wrote it when I was on a trip to a big city and somehow, in every crowd, there was a person who reminded me of the one I was in love with. So, it's not as though the person is annoying, it's like how everything makes you think of them. But all songs are open to interpretation! That's just the experience that inspired me to write it.

Well, I have to say even us guys really may understand these words - and (at least some of us) the way Emma meant them.
Emma, I must admit your songs are just perfect - words, music, performance, everything together...
Keep it up, and thank you.

My mom would sing this song to me all the time when I was younger, although I don't know what exactly inspired her to learn it, I do know that her singing this song to me is part of what inspires me to sing. Somehow, even though I don't know you, you've actually been a really big part of my life. Thank you so much for being so amazing.
