Part of Your Mudra

Baby, you're more enlightened than most men can attain

But I am rather frightened it's taken over more than your brain...

Chorus:

I want to be part of your mudra if it's a carnal one

But in bed I don't want a Buddha, I want a Genghis Khan

You say illusion's poison milk and it ropes us in our heads

But, see, I prefer scarves of silk and we'll just use them in our beds.

Though I'm glad you're now above machismo and acting tough

When we're making love it's okay to be a little rough

Chorus

We must always fight pleasure or the passion will suck us in

I say, why the extra work?  Why not just let them win?

Passive serenity may be the answer to world's strife

I just know it's the not the key to the best love life

Pet (Helena's Lament)

Oh yes, I know that you're not interested, I see

And I should let you go your way, that would be most mature of me

But I've thought for oh so long and had the best idea yet

That you and I would get along if you would let me be your pet...

Chorus:

I'd be the kind to follow everywhere

You'd run your fingers through my hair

Hold me close when you've had a fright

And let me in your bed when it's cold at night

You'd rub me real nice behind my ears

And sing me songs after you've had a couple beers

Give me treats when I've done something right

And let me in your bed when it's cold at night

Oh yes, and if my offer smacks of servitude

I only need remind you true love's course has yet to run real smooth

So now if you will let me near you all the night and day

Well, you will on your own see I do plenty more than sit or stay...

Chorus

Oh yes, and you could ask me where's my sense of pride

And I would tell you I've not had one since I met you last July

So now you see that it is rather foolish to give up

All of the perks and all the benefits if I were your spaniel pup...

You'd rub me real nice behind my ears

And sing me songs after you've had a couple beers

Give me treats when I've done something right

And let me in your bed, would you let me in your bed, if you'd let me in your bed when it's cold at night...

Bathsheba's Psalm

I know that I'm a woman

And I'm supposed to care about my heart

But how can I care about my heart,

When you are a work of art?

Cause, oh, I want you badly

And, oh, I want your lips on mine

And, oh, I want you to touch me

Who cares if our love won't transcend all time?

I know I should be romantic

And wax poetic about the ocean and shore

But I don't want any of your poetry

Go send Uriah out to the war

Cause, oh...

So, kiss me just one more time and tell me I'm on your mind

Though I know your love's on loan just act like I am your own

One day I might go sentimental

And want to follow you all of your life

But right now I don't care where you go

Just as long as you drive me

Cause, oh...

Caught

I have no business knowing about record players

They were out of vogue before I was playing Truth or Dare

But you know that spot, where the record's worn a groove

And the needle gets caught, like it's inking a tattoo?

Well, so it is with your voice

You're every answer, every clue and I haven't got a choice

And the very hope of you drifts over my bed at night like a just-out-of-reach kite...

Chorus:

And then I'm caught, you're tangled in my hair

And in my every thought and it isn't fair

'Cause you've no business being there

I have no business knowing about slide projectors

But I was blessed with an old fashioned art professor

Though I can't recall much of what he taught

I remember all the slides where it got caught

And so it is with your face

Down streets and avenues I see you everyplace

And the very hope of you drifts over my bed at night like a just-out-of-reach kite...

Chorus

I have no business knowing the Latin beat

Wasn't born in Rio or with roses in my teeth

But the rhythm gets caught and dances 'round my brain

Like the endless drops of Seattle rain

And so it is with you, dear

There is nothing I can do; you are near me even when you aren't near

And the very hope of you drifts over my bed at night like a just-out-of-reach kite...

Chorus

Alice in Wonderland

Somehow I've made it through life

With my heart still intact

With my baggage still packed, all my goals on track

But now, my goals seem kind of tame

Or did they go down the drain?

Well, there's no one else to blame but me

Chorus:

For I'd die to be the cigarette that lies in your lips

To be the guitar that caresses your hip

To be the strings that sigh as you slide your fingers over me

And it's curious the more you desire the farther you have to fall

But still I'd rather have my heart broken by you than never broken at all

Somehow I've made it through life

With my heart on my sleeve

Easy to deceive, blissfully naïve

But now, my innocence is lost

And I'm glad to pay the cost

Because the dice were tossed by me

Chorus

For I'd rather have my heart broken by you than never broken at all

A Reason To Stay Up All Night

Adam prayed one night, He said, “Lord, I like this place

I like being other than mud and I enjoy having a face

I like the beasts of the land and the fruit of the trees

And though I don’t quite understand, I like the birds and the bees

But I think I’d like, I think I’d like...

Chorus:

If I had someone to talk to

Some home to walk to

Someone to impress and delight

Somebody to tease

Somebody to please

A reason to stay up all night

Yeah, that’s what I’d like, that’s what I’d like...

Galileo prayed one night, he said, “Lord, I like this place

It’s too bad it took being exiled to get me my personal space

I love knowing the spheres of the earth and the moon

Four hundred years before anyone else has a clue

But I think I’d like, I think I’d like...

Chorus

I prayed one night, I said, “Lord, I like this place

I’m so glad the modern world figured out that people just get in the way

Every day I look older but no one is near enough to know

Though I admit, as the days grow colder my vanity’s the first thing to go

But I think I’d like, I think I’d like...

Chorus
